Lesson 3: Walking with groove
Fundamentals
This is an essential building block of jazz dance. Pretty much any step you do (with an exception of syncopates rhythm steps) you do with the bounce or groove. Sometimes it is called groove walk. And it is already enough to start dancing to swing and jazz. You will experience one of the main components of African dance traditions when walking with a groove: poly-rhythm. Your body is vibrating in 4/4 feel, pulsing and bouncing to every beat. You step and produce rhythm in your feet only half time on 1 and 3. And a final touch is a snap on back beat on 2 and 4!
