K Quintet’s debut album “Something Else” harkens back to the classic straight ahead jazz of the 60’s and 70’s, with names like Oscar Peterson, Red Garland and Ben Webster as influences. To achieve this the K Quintet lead by bassist David Duffy and singer Ksenia Parkhatskaya went to Vertigo Studios in Barcelona, Spain. A haven of vintage microphones, preamps and to tape recording facilities to achieve that classic 60s jazz timbre. And assembled some of the leading jazz players from Barcelona over two separate sessions for their debut album.

These “original” classic tunes were written by Duffy and wife dancer Ksenia Parkhatskaya to allow Ksenia access to royalty free swing music to continue creating to, with record labels slowly tightening the noose on online copyright.

The result was an album of classic standards, and new standards.
